The Management of the Shama District Assembly has held a strategic meeting to deliberate on the development of Shama as a result of the Big Push Project.
During the meeting, Management indicated that the Assembly, in collaboration with key service providers, Nananom, and the leadership of Inchaban, is working tirelessly to facilitate the relocation of traders from the current Inchaban market to a newly developed site. This relocation forms part of broader efforts to enhance infrastructure and promote sustainable economic growth within the district.
In a detailed presentation, the District Physical Planner highlighted that all major technical considerations, including hydro systems, electrical installations, fire safety mechanisms, and sanitation systems, have been adequately incorporated into the project design. These measures are intended to ensure safety, proper hygiene, efficiency, and a conducive trading environment for the people of Shama. She further noted that all relevant departments and agencies are working assiduously to ensure the successful execution of the project. However, she identified funding as the primary challenge and emphasized the need for innovative strategies to mobilize additional resources to complete the development. She expressed appreciation to members for their valuable contributions and commitment thus far.
The District Chief Executive of the Shama District Assembly reaffirmed the Assemblyโs commitment to prioritizing the economic well-being of its residents. He stressed the importance of providing a peaceful and well-structured trading space to enable traders to conduct their businesses effectively and improve their livelihoods. He assured Management that every necessary measure would be taken, in collaboration with stakeholders and service providers, to ensure that traders are provided with a suitable and secure place of business.
The District Chief Executive further assured members that adequate sensitization and education would be carried out to ensure that market women and traders are well-informed and prepared for the transition to the new market facility. He reiterated his commitment to fostering collaboration and creating an enabling environment that supports trade, development, and improved living standards for the people of Shama.
