The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Shama District Assembly, Hon. Paul Otis Dentu, has paid a visit to candidates sitting for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the district. The visit formed part of the Assemblyโ€™s support and encouragement to the students as they prepare to complete their secondary education.

During the visit, Hon. Dentu also conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of Hon. Emelia Arthur, Member of Parliament for Shama and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture. He assured the candidates of her continuous support and encouragement as they undertake their final examinations.

In his address, Hon. Paul Otis Dentu urged the candidates to approach the examination with confidence, honesty, and determination. He cautioned them strongly against engaging in any form of examination malpractice, reminding them that such acts could jeopardize their future. He further encouraged the students to study diligently, rely on the knowledge they have acquired, and trust in their own abilities.

Highlighting some government interventions in education, the DCE drew attention to the โ€œNo Fees Stressโ€ programme, a Ghanaian government initiative launched by President John Dramani Mahama on July 4, 2025. The policy is designed to cover academic user fees for first-year students enrolled in public tertiary institutions, including universities and colleges. He explained that the programme was introduced to ease the financial burden on students and their families, while also ensuring wider access to higher education.

Hon. Dentu also took the opportunity to inform the candidates about the Shama District Scholarship Scheme, a local initiative aimed at supporting brilliant but needy students. He explained that the scheme is designed to ensure that hardworking students from the district can further their education at the tertiary level without being hindered by financial challenges.

The visit ended with words of motivation and assurance from Hon. Dentu, who expressed confidence that the students would excel and make the district proud.
