DISTRICT EDUCATION DIRECTORATE

The District Education Directorate is responsible for the implementation of pre-tertiary educational policies of the Government at the District level to ensure that all Ghanaian children of school-going age irrespective of tribe, gender, disability, religious and political affiliations are provided with good quality formal education. The pre-tertiary comprises schools from the KG level to Senior High/ Technical Schools

A. VISION OF THE DIRECTORATE

 To ensure that all children of school going age in the district are equipped with sound moral values, excellent and probing intellectual skills to help them overcome poverty.

B. MISSION STATEMENT

To create the enabling environment necessary for school children and teachers as well as ancillary staff in the District to achieve our goals through comprehensive supervision, adequate infrastructure, quality teaching and learning and well motivated staff.

C. FUNCTIONS OF DISTICT EDUCATION DIRECTORATE

  1. Performs the functions of Education Service at the District Level.
  2. Submit reports on activities of the Directorate to the Regional Education Directorate and the District Assembly and encourages the Assembly on the implementation of educational policies and other matters relating to basic education using the designed format of reporting.
  3. The District Education Directorate shall collaborate with
  • The District Assembly to ensure that basic education, including non-formal education, is available to meet the needs of the population of the District.
  • Appropriate religious educational units to ensure delivery of educational services to meet the peculiar needs of the areas within the District and in accordance with educational policy as determined by the Minister.

D. THE DISTRICT EDUCATION IS HEADED BY A DISTRICT DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION WHOSE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING;

  • Implementation of the education policies and activities at the District Level.
  • Running of the day-to-day administration of the Education Directorate.
  • Ensure the implementation of the decisions of the Education Service at the District level.
  • Perform advisory role in the District Assembly on matters relating to education at the pre-tertiary level and other matters that may be referred to by the District Assembly.
