Shama District rewards 19 Farmers
Some 19 farmers have been rewarded for their great contributions towards food security in the Shama District of the Western Region.
The farmers received matchets, Wellington boots, bicycles, pieces of cloths, Television sets, fridges, spraying machines and bags of fertilisers, among others.
Mr Ebenezer Dadzie, the District Chief Executive for Shama District, speaking at the Farmers Day Celebrations in “Kumasi” within the District of Shama encouraged
farmers to continue working hard.
He said though it took time for the farmers’ investments to be rewarded, the gains were always enormous and rewarding.
Mr Dadzie added that the government continued to recognised the contributions of farmers in many ways to the development of the country resulting in tangible policy
interventions in the sector.
The DCE added that the government had put in place many interventions to assist farmers and fishers to be interested in their profession.
Mr Mohammed Abass, the District Director of Agriculture, appealed to the farmers to get closer to the extension o cers and learn new techniques in the farming industry.
He said farmers, who had availed themselves to the extension officers and applied the methods taught them always had good harvest.
Mr Kwasi Nkum won the district best farmer and received a tricycle, knapsack sprayer, two shovels, two bags of limestone, cutlasses, wellington boots, a full piece of cloth as his prize.
He promised to work hard to continue contributing his quota towards the district’s development.
