Tidal Waves At Anlo Beach
Currently about 50% of the population are displace and houses submerged by the waves. A visit to the community by the District Chief Executive Hon. Ebenezer Dadzie, Member of Parliament Lawyer Erison Abakah, Coordinating Director Mr. Richard Blevi, District Nadmo officer Mr. Micheal Nyan together with National fire services officer and some officers from the Assembly went round to access the situation. About sixty four houses have been destroyed and 2400 residents which comprises 1400 males and 1000 females including children have been displaced. According to Ghana Statistical service record in 2020 projected figure the Anlo beach community has six EA’s based locality of which 3 EA’s based were affected.
Meanwhile some resident have been relocated to class rooms while others are staying with families in the nearby communities. In all over four thousand people have been displaced.
Hon. DCE Mr. Ebenezer Dadzie in his speech said the Anlo beach has been battling with Tidal waves for some years and effort were made to relocate resident but due to land litigation this has not be done, but this time we are moving all the people of Anlo beach to relocate to the new site to prevent further disaster. He added life is so important and one must not sit down to watch human lives perished. He also pleaded with the land owners to support the Assembly in its decision for the betterment of the people, while we wait for the verdicts of the court.
Nadmo Director Nana Agyeman Prempeh visited the place a day after the disaster to give some relieve items to the residents of Anlo beach which includes 50 bags of rice, 50 pieces of mattress, provisions, 20 bales of second hand clothes, 49 boxes of soap, 6 packs of mosquito net, 20 boxes of vegetable oil, 300 pieces of plastic bucket, 20 boxes of mosquito coil, 278 pieces of plastic basin, 300 pieces of plastic cup, 300 pieces of plastic bowls, 300 pieces of blanket etc.
Nana Agyeman prempeh during his presentation said he is very excited about how the people of Anlo beach have agreed to the resettlement, and assured them the Presidents, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and his government will do their possible best to support those in coastal areas which includes Anlo beach with sea defence to prevent the tidal waves.
The chief of Anlo beach Torbui Garikor thank the Nadmo Director, DCE, MP, and the District Assembly on behalf of the community.
