IMO Technology Training For Selected Pig Farmers In Shama District

Pig production lately has been given more attention by the youth because of its high demand for the meat, which has also become a source of employment both in the Shama district and the nation as a whole. From research pork meat is one of the healthy meats one can consume but it management and running of a pig sty has come with many constraints such as scent, labour, feeding costs etc.

With this effect, researchers have come out with a solution to tackle such a problem in the industry which is the IMO technology. Through this, the department taught it right to organize such training to sensitize and advocate the use of this technology by farmers in the district.

Importance of IMO (Indigenous microorganism technology)

  • To help reduce cost-effectiveness in the industry through feeding.
  • Remove the sting/scent that emerges from rearing the animal
  • Reduce labour
  • To make the meat wholesome.

Venue and participation

The training was held at a pig farm at Kobbina Anokrom at 10:00 am on March 17, 2022, supervised by the District Livestock Officer and supported by two Extension officers.

The training was in two sections, that is, the theory and practical section.

The program ended on a successful note with the farmers being happy to get first-hand information about their industry and the director of Agriculture for Shama District Mr. Micheal Edward Addo giving the final encouragement to the farmers that they should keep on with their hard work and also to increase production, to form a Famer Base Organisation (FBO). A closing prayer was then said by Mr. John Arthur (farmer) to bring the program to an end.
