A monitoring exercise was carried out at the Shama District Assembly by the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) in order to monitor the performance of the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs). This was done in collaboration with the management of the Assembly. It is worth noting that the monitoring was aimed at their administrative performance, levels of compliance, as well as their use of the District Development Data Platform (DDDP).
The monitoring team, led by the Regional Development Planning Officer, interacted with the various departments to review their records and data uploaded into the DDDP. The team praised the Assembly for their efforts so far, especially in documentation, staff dedication, and overall management of the organization. They emphasized the need for submission of work plans on a daily basis by the various departments and an understanding that the output of one department is the input of another department, making it imperative for interdepartmental collaboration.
Some of the challenges that were noted to exist in the exercise include: There were challenges such as delays in updating some data on the DDDP database, some gaps in documentation, and the need for improvement of inter-departmental coordination. There is also a need for the timely updating of the Assemblyโs website to ensure that current information is widely available.
The monitoring exercise was conducted in a cordial and collaborative atmosphere. Both the Western Regional Coordinating Council and the Shama District Assembly reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the recommendations made in order to enhance institutional performance, accountability, and effective service delivery.
