The Shama District Assembly, under the leadership of the District Chief Executive, Hon. Paul Otis Dentu, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for Shama, Hon. Emelia Arthur, and the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, has officially commenced fourteen (14) major development projects aimed at accelerating socio-economic growth in the municipality.
The sod-cutting ceremony, held on Wednesday, 11th December 2025, marked the beginning of a series of infrastructure interventions across various communities in the Shama Municipality. The projects are expected to significantly improve access to healthcare, education, water, sanitation, and effective local administration.
Among the health-related projects are the construction of three Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compounds at Dwomo, Shama Kumasi, and Asemasa No. 1, a Maternity Block and Theatre at Shama, as well as a Nursesโ Quarters at Fawomanye. These facilities are intended to enhance healthcare delivery and bring essential medical services closer to residents.
In the education sector, the Assembly will construct four school facilities at Anto, Komfueku, Anlo Beach, and Krobo-Bosomdo, alongside a Teachersโ Quarters at Shama, to support quality teaching and learning across the municipality.
To address water and sanitation challenges, the projects include the provision of seventeen (17) mechanized boreholes in selected communities and ten (10) sanitary containers to promote improved environmental sanitation and public health.
Additionally, the Assembly has procured two (2) Toyota pick-up vehicles to strengthen project monitoring and revenue mobilisation, ensuring effective supervision of development works and improved internal revenue performance.
Speaking at the ceremony, the leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration between central government, the Assembly, and local communities in driving sustainable development. They reaffirmed their commitment to delivering projects that directly respond to the needs of the people of Shama.
The commencement of these projects demonstrates the Shama District Assemblyโs resolve to improve living standards and promote inclusive development across the municipality.
