Department of Agriculture – Shama organize Farmer Based Organisations (FBO) Training

The role of FBOs in the Modernization of Agriculture (MAG) agenda is very key. In view of this, there was a training workshop organized by department of Agric, Shama in collaboration with the National Extension services directorate on the 17th of January, 2021 at Shama GES conference room. Leaders of FBOs in enterprises like cassava, rice, Poultry, vegetables and others were present at the workshop.

The aim of the training workshop was to:

  • Validate the FBOs in the district.
  • Strengthen the existing FBOs in the district and
  • Identified challenges facing the FBOs

  • FBOs formation guidelines
  • How to manage FBOs
  • Sustainability of FBOs
  • Improve FBOs through teamwork

Challenges facing FBOs in the district

  • They have difficulty in determining the price for their produce
  •  Inability to acquire storage facilities in order to determine price.
  • Difficulty in accessing credit facilities for their businesses. etc

The workshop was successfully organized. Participants pledged their commitment to ensuring that knowledge acquired at the workshop would be put to use to strengthen their various groups. Leaders also appealed to the facilitators of the workshop to ensure that concerns raised by the participants are addressed.
