Department of Agriculture- Shama Demonstrate on Post-harvest management techniques to cassava farm at Essumankrom
Post-harvest management is about making informed decisions in applying various post-harvest activities, technologies and options such as processing, packaging, storage, cleaning and maintaining quality or adding values to agricultural products from the field to the end consumer. An activity can be undertaken by farmers, farmer groups or agri business company.
On the 10th of February, 2021, The Department of Agriculture, Shama District Assembly took Cassava farmers at Essumankrom through Post- Harvest Management techniques and the following importance of post-harvest management;

- It maintains quality of products.

- It contributes to food security
- Its increases revenue of the producer
- It helps in consumer preference demand
- It provides better markets for farmers
- It helps meet requirement for exports
HOW POST – HARVEST MANAGEMENT BRINGS INCOME TO PRODUCERS AND OTHER VALUE CHAIN ACTORS.
- Farmers income can be increased if the they add value to their produce
- The farmer is the first actor in the value chain and more often gets a little profit as compared to the those along the value chain line on post –harvest.
- Post- harvest loss is a measurable drop in quantity and quality of product in the post-harvest system that prevents the product from being used as intended.
- It is an activity that begins from harvest time through ton processing, marketing and food preparation to a consumer.
