Inauguration Of Unit Committee At The Various Area Councils

The Shama District Assembly as part of its efforts to deepen Transparent and Accountable governance organized a program on Wednesday, 7^th July 2021 at the various Area Councils to inaugurate all Unit Committee members, elect Area Council Executives and Conduct a swearing-in for the elected executives. The District Chief Executive and his entourage visited all the six Area Councils namely, Shama Area Council, Shama Junction Area Council, Aboadze-Abuesi Area Council, Supomu Dunkwa Area Council, Assorku-Essaman Area Council and Inchaban Area Council.

Hon. Joseph Amoah, the District Chief Executive took members through the Model Standing Orders for both Area Councils and Unit Committees and also briefed them on the composition of the Unit Committee. He further informed that the District Assembly cannot function in isolation except within the sub-structures. The District Chief Executive, Hon. Joseph Amoah admonished unit committee members to avoid partisan politics in the performance of their duties. He stated some of the functions of the Area Councils and Unit Committees as follows:

Support in Revenue Mobilization
Provide recommendations and input into Assembly’s developments plan and budgets.
Protect the environment against pollution and destruction
Embark on regular engagement with their community members to make decisions on developments.
Monitoring, Coordination and implementation of projects and programmes.
