TICO supports Ghana Police Service with checkpoint
The Takoradi International Company (TICO/TAQA), a power distribution company in the Shama District of the Western Region, has handed over a fully furnished checkpoint to the Ghana Police Service.
The facility is expected to enhance security and safeguard lives and property of the power distribution company in the Aboadze and Abuesi communities.
At a ceremony to hand over the facility, Mr Ernest Kofi Osafo, the General Manager of TICO, said safety and security were paramount and fundamental to the well-being of every individual, hence the decision to support the Police Service to effectively provide security to the people in those areas.
He said increased police presence in the communities would reduce criminal activities and ensure security for the people to go about their duties without fear.
Mr Osafo encouraged the police to discharge their duties professionally and with discipline to create a serene atmosphere where the vulnerable would not be intimidated.
He commended them for their significant role in maintaining law and order and assured them of the company’s commitment to constructing a befitting police station for the area.
Mr Stephen Asoah, the Safety and Security Manager of TICO, said the company would collaborate with the Volta River Authority to ensure that the power enclave was free of criminal activities.
DSP Atta Yeboah Ntoree, the Shama District Police Commander, commended the company for the facility and said it would create a safe environment for the personnel to do their work without fear.
The provision of security was a shared responsibility that required collaborative efforts from all stakeholders, he said, and gave the assurance that the police would work with the communities through the best policing standards to collectively protect the people and the power distribution company.
Mr Ebenezer Dadzie, the Shama District Chief Executive, reiterated the need to protect the hard-earned peaceful coexistence in the power enclave for improved socio-economic activities.
He described the provision of the checkpoint as apt as it would give an impetus to the security and safety measures by the Assembly to ensure a peaceful environment.
Mr Dadzie appealed to TICO/TAQA to consider the need to fix streetlights along the Inchaban-Aboadze-Abuesi stretch to reduce accidents.
Mr Jacob Brown Yawson, the Plant Manager of the Volta River Authority, said the benefits of the security checkpoint could not be overstated as it would, among other things, harmonise the relationship between the companies and the communities.
He welcomed the move by the companies to put up a befitting police station to quell criminal activities that would hinder their operations.
