Shama Traditional Leaders Call for Depoliticisation of DRIP Initiative
The Shama Traditional Council has called on the District Assembly to adopt an impartial approach to implementing the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP).
Nana Akosua Gyamfuaba II, the Ag. Queen Mother of the Shama Traditional Area, made this appeal during the official handover of the district’s DRIP consignment.
Nana Gyamfuaba urged the assembly to prioritise communities with the worst road conditions, without any political bias, and to ensure fairness in the selection process. She also advised residents to remain patient if the road improvement machinery has not yet reached their areas.
In addition, the Queen Mother emphasised the importance of regular maintenance of the DRIP equipment to ensure their longevity and efficiency.
Shama’s Member of Parliament, Samuel Erikson Abakah, described the DRIP initiative as timely, citing the district’s numerous deteriorating roads in need of urgent attention.
Shama District Chief Executive, Ebenezer Dadzie, praised the government for the initiative, noting that in addition to improving roads, the program will also create employment opportunities in the district.
“While the primary goal of DRIP is to address the poor state of our roads, it will also help reduce unemployment by requiring the recruitment of personnel to operate the backhoes, rollers, and water tankers,” he said, further assuring that the machines would be properly maintained.
New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate, Mr. Kwamina Afful, expressed confidence in the initiative, stating that it reflects the party’s commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians. He urged voters to support the NPP in the upcoming elections on December 7.
