TRAINING PROGRAM ORGANIZED FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (PWD’S) ON HOW TO MAKE LIQUID SOAP AT ABOADZE COMMUNITY CENTRE

As a mandate of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development to educate and train people including the vulnerable in the society on alternative livelihood and income generation activities in the District, the Department organized two (2) days training program at Aboadze-Abuesi community centers in the District to train Fifty (50) Persons With Disabilities on how to make and brand liquid soap, after wash and Parazone for the market.

PREPARATION PROCESS

The facilitator started by explaining to the participants the intended purpose of the training and how it is going to help as an alternative livelihood for them.

Chemicals used in the preparation

  • Base
  • Salt
  • Thicken liquid
  • Booster power
  • Booster liquid 
  • Perfume
  • Preservative

The process began with the base and salt mixed in a basin or a big bowl that can enable one to stir in the same direction, water is then added to soften or lose up the mixture and when it hardens. The mixture then becomes smooth and thick with the dissolved salt in it. At this point the booster liquid and power provided latter.

After adding all the ingredients, the liquid soap mixture is allowed to settle down about 4 to 5 hours before fetching them to bottles and package it for the market, at this point took up the session to educate participant on how to package, brand and label the product for customers.

FINDING AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Participants expressed their excitement for the training as they involved themselves in each process.
  • Participants suggested that the department support them to secure some startup capital to start the preparation.
  • Participant were made to try the process on their own after the facilitator thought them the whole process.
  • Market penetration were also taught in the program.

RECOMMENDATION

It was recommended that the disability fund management committee supports those who want to engage in skill training with different training on alternative livelihood to assist them economically.

CONCLUSION

The program was successfully concluded and collaboration as the participants welcomed additional training in future.
