SHAMA DISTRICT ASSEMBLY SUPPORTS 132 PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

On 11th September, 2026, the Shama District Assembly, under the leadership of Hon. Paul Otis Dentu, District Chief Executive, and Hon. Emelia Arthur, Member of Parliament for Shama, supported 132 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) through its livelihood support programme.

The initiative forms part of the Assembly’s commitment to promoting social inclusion, empowering Persons with Disabilities, and creating opportunities for beneficiaries to establish or expand income-generating activities and improve their livelihoods.

The beneficiaries received various forms of support, including deep freezers, fufu machines, sewing machines, industrial sewing machines, ovens and gas cylinders, knitting machines, wheelchairs, hairdressing kits, cash support, educational support and medical support, among other livelihood support items.

The programme underscores the Assembly’s dedication to ensuring that Persons with Disabilities receive the necessary support to become economically empowered and more self-reliant.

Special appreciation also goes to the Department of Social Welfare and the Disability Fund Management Committee for their hard work, commitment, and contribution to the successful implementation of the programme.

The Assembly further recognizes Nana Afo Kwaku II, Chairman of the Disability Fund Management Committee, for his leadership and dedication to ensuring the effective management and disbursement of the Disability Fund.
